RTA Menu
This menu page is used to configure the Real Time Analyzer (RTA) instrument. This instrument displays the spectral content of the selected input channel(s) using 31 filter bands in 1/3 octave steps, 61 filter bands in 1/6 octave steps or 120 filter bands in 1/12 octave steps. Like an oscilloscope it measures the magnitude of an input signal versus frequency within the full frequency range of the instrument. An optional "H" band shows spectral signal components above 20 kHz. The RMS integration time is pursuant to IEC651. The RMS peak rises with 10 ms, the fallback time is the same as a peakmeter. The display’s reference point and resolution can be shifted for a clearer readout in the window. The RTA’s layer display is always relative.
• Filter
This key is used to switch between 1/3 octave (31 bands), 1/6 octave (61 bands), or 1/12 octave (122 bands) modes.
Options: |
|
1/3 Oct | 1/6 Oct | 1/12 Oct |
Default value: |
|
1/3 Oct |
• H-Bar > 20 kHz
This key is only available with the "Range" parameter set to "Norm". It is used to activate or deactivate the additional "H" bargraph showing the spectral signal components above 20 kHz.
Options: |
|
on | off |
Default value: |
|
on |
• Weigthing Filter
This key is used to set the weighting filter used for the RTA instrument. Selecting "linear" will deactivate any weighting filter.
Options: |
|
linear | A | C |
Default value: |
|
linear |
• Bar Layout
This key is used to select one of three available display layouts for the RTA. In "single" mode, all bars are placed equidistantly, In "groups" and "blocks" modes, sets of three bars each are displayed in two layout variations.
Options: |
|
single | groups | blocks |
Default value: |
|
single |
• Peakhold Mode
This key is used to select the operation mode for Peakhold. If you select "fixed interval", all peakhold indicators will be reset at the same time. If select "independent bars", the peakhold indicators of each bargraph will independently be reset after the selected hold time (see next option).
Options: |
|
fixed interval | independent bars |
Default value: |
|
fixed interval |
• Peakhold
This key is used to activate the Peakhold function and to select its hold time. If active, Peakhold displays white dots on top of all bars that memorize the maximum levels of their respective bars during a selectable hold time. In "manual" mode, the dots can only be erased manually with "Peakhold Reset".
Options: |
|
off | 1 s | 2 s | 4 s | 10 s | 20 s | 30 s | manual |
Default value: |
|
1 s |
• Bar Colors
This key is used to select the bar colors for the normal and over areas and the background color of the RTA display.

Initial Instrument Settings section
This section is used to define some initial parameters of the RTA. Using the Control Bar keys of the instrument, these parameters can also be switched without entering the menu. The Control Bar keys are configured in the menu accessed with the "Configure Keys" button (see below).
• Input
This key is used to select the input channel(s) to be displayed in the RTA. Depending on the channel mode selected for the audio group, separate channels, the summing signal of all channels and various channel combinations are available for the RTA input source.
Options: |
|
single channels | channel pairs | channel combinations |
Default value: |
|
depending on selected channel mode |
• Resolution
This key is used to set the level resolution and the visible level range of the RTA display. Each bold horizontal line represents a level step of 3, 6 or 9 dB. Accordingly, each fine horizontal line represents a level step of 1, 2 or 3 dB. Depending on the setting, the displayed level range will be 15, 30 or 45 dB.
Options: |
|
3 dB | 6 dB | 9 dB |
Default value: |
|
9 dB |
• Range
This key is used to switch the frequency range of the RTA display between LF (5 Hz - 5 kHz) and normal mode (20 Hz - 20 kHz).
Options: |
|
LF | Norm |
Default value: |
|
Norm |
• Ballistics
This key is used to select the detector type and integration time used by the RTA. In "peak" mode, a peak detector is used. In all other modes, a RMS detector with three different integration times is used. The integration times are as follows: Peak: 10 ms, Impulse: 35 ms, Fast: 125 ms, Slow: 1000 ms
Options: |
|
impulse | fast | slow | peak |
Default value: |
|
fast |
• Ref
This key is used to set a relative reference level for the "0 dB" point of the RTA level scale. This function is used to shift the visible level window so that the signal source can be displayed best. Increasing the reference value will reduce the instrument's sensitivity, decreasing the value will increase the sensitivity.
Options: |
|
-18 dB to +21 dB in steps of 3 dB |
Default value: |
|
0.0 dB |

• Keys
The "RTA Keys" menu entered with the "Configure" key is used to define the keys that will be available in the instrument's and the local Control Bar and to define the routing of the global keyboard.
